The expansion of residential options in Southwest Washington continues, with 276 apartments to be added in phase two of the View at Waterfront at the intersection of Sixth and M streets.

The original View at Waterfront, designed by architect I.M. Pei and built in 1963, has 256 apartments and was renovated in 2014. Phase two, located along the Southwest waterfront, will incorporate elements of the original building’s style in two additional apartment buildings, each seven stories tall.

Mill Creek Residential and John Hancock Real Estatehave begun construction on the new buildings, which are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018. The buildings will have nearly 4,000 square feet of retail space, and residents will be able to walk to the Waterfront Metro station, Nationals Park, Arena Stage, Capitol Hill and the Washington Navy Yard, as well as the Wharf, which will have restaurants, shops and cultural amenities, including a concert venue.

The View at Waterfront will have studio and one- and two-bedroom units, some with lofts. The buildings will include a fitness center, a seventh-floor terrace with a wet bar and dining area, offices with conference tables, a business equipment center and an outdoor game space. Rents and a leasing date have yet to be determined.
